How to choose the right shower pump

• Identify your water system, mains fed, gravity fed or unvented cylinder. This determines which pump type suits your project.

• Check your current pressure and flow rate. A positive head pump needs at least 0.3 bar existing pressure, whereas a negative head pump works with less.

• Calculate expected demand. A single bathroom needs lower capacity than dual or triple shower setups.

• Measure the space for the unit. Some are compact wall mounted models, while others need floor or cupboard space with vibration isolation.

• Consider noise and positioning. Pumps near bedrooms benefit from sound insulation or quieter motor designs.

• Verify compatibility with your existing pipework, fittings and any hot water system or thermostatic valve in use.

• Establish the spec of your current supply, pressure in bar, flow rate in litres per minute and system type.

• Plan where the pump will sit and how it connects to incoming and outgoing pipes, allowing access for maintenance and isolation valves.

• Check electrical requirements if using an electric pump. Ensure a suitable power supply and earthing nearby.

• Confirm whether the job needs a single pump or whether twin outlet setups call for a different configuration.
