A bath panel is the finishing piece that closes off the open side or end of a bath. It covers the structural frame and pipework, helps keep splash away from the area beneath the bath and gives the installation a tidy, completed appearance.

Bath panels are part of a proper finish on refurbishment work and new fit outs alike. When the panel fits well, it helps conceal the subframe, waste and pipework, supports a neat edge to the bath and reduces the chance of water sitting where it should not.

• Match the panel to the bath type, whether that is a standard rectangular bath, a corner layout or a custom installation.

• Think about access to pipework and waste, plus any storage and future maintenance or replacement needs.

• A clean fit depends on preparation, the right fixings and proper sealing.

• Before fitting, assess whether the panel is a straightforward fit or whether the layout needs more work because of access or existing fixtures.

• Prepare the substrate so the floor surfaces are level, clean and stable, then check the fixing method you plan to use.

• Seal the joints carefully to help protect the area behind the panel from splash and condensation.

• If you are replacing an existing panel, plan removal and disposal in advance and dispose of them in the correct way.

• Keep the right fixings and adhesives on site, and allow for setting times so you can complete the fit efficiently.
